About Melanie

Melanie Rae Perez is a dedicated scholar with a focus on international relations, particularly focused on the intersections of religion, politics, and global justice. She is currently pursuing a PhD in International Relations and Politics at Florida International University, building on her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from the same institution. Her academic background includes studies in Strategic Studies, International Law, and Foreign Policy Analysis, reflecting her commitment to understanding complex global dynamics. Melanie has contributed to the field through research and presentations at conferences such as the Middle East Studies Association and the International Studies Association. Her work addresses topics ranging from the role of religion in international relations to the strategic objectives of states.

In addition to her research, Melanie is actively involved in mentoring and leadership. As a Teaching Assistant and Graduate Assistant at FIU, she has supported students in exploring key topics in international relations while also managing programs like the Global Learning Fellowship. She has held leadership roles, including President of the Politics & International Relations Graduate Student Organization and Vice President of UN Women FIU, fostering collaboration and community within academic and advocacy spaces. Proficient in several languages and holding certifications in areas such as Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies, human rights, and yoga instruction; Melanie brings a thoughtful and multidisciplinary approach to her work.
